Kobe Bryant's Injury

Should the NBA have issued the statement that indeed Kobe was fouled and should have been allowed two free throws that could have tied up the game? If Dahntay Jones was playing dirty, what should be the consequence? "As defensive players, you can contest shots, but you can't walk underneath players," Bryant said. "That's dangerous for the shooter." Bryant later tweeted: "#dangerousplay that should have been called. Period." “It’s just a very, very dangerous play,” Bryant said. “Especially if I’m fading away, there’s no rhyme or reason why I should come down anywhere near somebody’s foot.” Bryant said Jones “Jalen Rose’d” him, referring to the 2000 NBA Finals against Indiana, when Bryant landed on Rose’s foot and severely sprained his ankle, forcing him to miss a game. Kobe allowed that this is the worst he’s sprained an ankle since the Rose incident, which the ESPN analyst later admitted on his Grantland.com podcast was intentional. On his @dahntay1 Twitter account, Jones argued otherwise: “Tape doesn’t lie. Ankle was turned on the floor after the leg kick out that knocked him off balance. I would never try to hurt the man.” "As defensive players, you can contest shots, but you can't walk underneath players," Bryant said. "That's dangerous for the shooter." Bryant later tweeted: "#dangerousplay that should have been called. Period." "I can't get my mind past the fact that I have to wait a whole year for revenge" The NBA came out with the statement that indeed, Kobe was fouled and should have received two free-throws. What do you think? Should the NBA have commented after the fact? Was Dayshan Jones playing dirty? What should happen to Jones? Kobe?

Monroe Film Festival

Howdy Fellow Vikings, Our Film Festival is coming and deadlines are quickly approaching! The film festival will take place on May 10th and 11th. However, applications to the film festival are due March 1st. I will put an application in your box and a flyer will follow. The applications can be found on the AME bulletin board in A-Hall. They can be found on line at https://sites.google.com/site/monroefilmfestival/ . You (or students) can also see Mr. Moss, Mr. Hayes, Ms. Petrossian, Mr. Langlois or email monroefilmfestival@gmail.com. We plan on putting on an amazing event and hope anybody that is interested will participate. If you have any suggestions or ideas, we’d love to hear them. The details of the event will come. Right now we just need to plant seeds that can grow into films. They take time to plan, film, and edit. This is a great opportunity for students. Many students have the ability to create a short film in their pocket (~phones). The possibilities are many…document a club, sport, experiment, assignment, competition, skating trick, or field trip. Tell your life story. Tell another’s life story. Direct, act, edit, costume/make-up/hair, or write. Make us laugh, cry, or cringe. Inform us (or misinform us!). This is a chance for students all along the spectrum to shine. Please consider sponsoring a film/filmmaker. Please mention it to your advisories. Consider incorporating it into a class or offering extra-credit for work well done. Again, applications (not films) are due Friday, March 1st. Sincerely, B. Langlois Arts, Media, & Entertainment
